Chapter Two of The Shasta Caper is now posted at blogger.

"Samuel!" Jimbo's alarmed voice shouted.

The sound of frightened people all around.

He opened his eyes just as paramedics came rushing in and the sound of sirens grew louder and louder. Several policemen rushed in as well.

The tall woman was gone.

Samuel was laying on the floor of Denny's, bruises all over his face and arms, cuts and scrapes as well, as if he had narrowly escaped death.

Jimbo put a hand on Samuel's chest. "I thought we had lost you."

"Not my time to go just yet." Samuel said, groaning as he tried to sit up. He couldn't. His back was as bruised as the front of him.

"You look like an avalanche rolled over you."

Samuel shut his eyes. "One did." He muttered, before he lost consciousness.

Chapter Two

"Hey there bright eyes!" Greeted Sambo to Samuel as he awoke in a hospital bed, with an intravenous line running into his right arm and a gorgeous Nurse with bright red hair standing behind Jimbo, who held out a fan of flowers...a mix of daisies and carnations to Samuel.

"Thought you could use a little cheering up. On two fronts." Jimbo said with a wink.

The Nurse came around Jimbo and took the flowers, then slid them neatly into an already filled vase of water next to Samuel's bed. "My name's Nurse Red. I'll be serving you tonight."

"And me tomorrow." Jimbo joked.

She turned around and scowled at him. "Do all Texans have the manner of pigs?"

"No. Usually, it's more like steer." He chided.

She shook her pretty hair about in resignation and looked at Samuel. "He never stops, does he?"

"Not usually." Samuel said with a thin smile. It hurt to smile. It shouldnt' have, but it did."

"Good. Because I haven't had an exciting date in a  year at least." She said, then gave Jimbo a shy smile.

He gave her a friendly look, then shook his head. "Sorry, Red, this man's my date until he gets out of this dump."

She laughed. "If your friend is even half as funny and...wierd as you, I'm going to sign up for the night shift tomorrow too."

Jimbo stopped her on the way out. "Could you bring us a fizzy of some kind?"

"For your friend?"

"No me. I'm dry as a donkey's butt in a desert storm." He laughed.

She shook her head and looked back at Samuel. "I'll bring you some water too."

Samuel nodded at her. His mouth was parched. He tried to sit up, but every bone in his body felt like it had been slammed against a brick wall.

Jimbo sat in a comfy chair next to the bed and looked across at Samuel. "Want an extra pillow or anything, Nurse Jane said she could snatch a couple extras for you."

Samuel grinned, though it killed him. "Nurse Red. Nurse Jane. How many nurses do you know here already?"

Jimbo swept his hands out, indicating all of them.

Samuel shook his head, which was a mistake. A thunderstorm of aches blasted behind his eyes. He shut them quickly, hoping that would help. Usually, it did, but something had happened that he had never experienced before. He had been slammed by a psychic backwash. In occult terms it meant that the woman he had touched had amplified...by mistake?...the energies flowing into his mind at the time and almost blown every fuse in his body.

"Who was that woman?"

"Nurse Red."

"No...the one in Denny's." He squeaked between his dry lips.

"Here we go." Nurse Red said, interrupting whatever Jimbo was about to say next. She slipped
between them and helped Samuel sit up, by pressing a floor pedal which caused the back of his body to rise slowly until he was in a seated position. She pulled a tray from the side of the bed over his lap, then set down a tall Perrier, a glass of ice and a lemon.

"Thanks." Samuel managed, though again with a squeak.

She expertly pressed the lemon until its juices flowed into glass of ice, then popped the metal cap of the Perrier between her thumb and forefinger and expertly tossed the contents into the glass. "There you go." She said, then grabbed inside her nurse blouse and came out with a straw. She plucked its paper off and shoved it into the glass, then slid it closer to Samuel's grip.

He lifted the liquid and began sipping. At first cautiously and painfully, then as he drank more, he could feel his skin relaxing and his throat stretching as well. "Thanks!" He croaked.

Jimbo smiled at Nurse Red. "You really gotta show me how to do that cap popper thing, girl."
"What? Not all Texans know how to open a bottle?"

"Oh, we know how to do that, just not the way you do."

She laughed. "I'm sure you'd like to show me exactly how they do, wouldn't you?"
Jimbo actually blushed.

"I know. After your friend is better."

She leaned close to Samuel, giving him a sudden thrill of air across his right ear. "Don't keepme waiting."

She laughed, then left the room. She leaned back in, catching the shocked look on both men's faces. "Ring the buzzer on your left if you need anything. I'm here until Midnight." Which she said to Jimbo at the end.

She exited fully.

Jimbo whistled.

Samuel tried to, but he couldn't, though his toes felt as if they were curled into knots.

"Whatever made that gal, must have come straight from heaven."

"Or hell." Samuel quipped.

They both laughed.

Jimbo clapped a hand on Samuel's left arm. Samuel winced.

"Sorry. Still hurts?"

"Like I was run over by a freight train."

Jimbo looked very solemn for a moment, then sighed. "Her mane was Lady Maranka, first class lady, part oriental, part British. Hence the title. She comes from a long descendancy of psychics, starting from Houdini."

"No." Samuel said. "Really?"

"Oh yeah. But you know that's all a load of crap, don't you? Harry was just an ordinary guy with a huge talent and imagination to match. Not an ounce of occult blood in his veins."

"I wouldn't be so sure of that." Samuel warned and then he explained what had happened to him and what he had seen.

He could tell Jimbo wasn't buying all of it, but like the good friend he was, even if he didn't believe everything that Samuel told him, he always gave it a benefit of the doubt, which more than likely had saved his life more than once on the various adventures the two had together over the years.

Jimbo listened to the description of the avalanche killing Chindra and Sati, and then he sat straight up as if listening to something. "You hear that?"

"Hear what?" Samuel asked, suddenly worried that maybe they were at the center of some kind of psychic twister. It didn't happen often, but Samuel's powers tended to drag them into situations and places where the paranormal forces were stronger than usual and sometimes, just downright
dangerous and destructive.

He tried to tune into it with his senses, but he got  nothing.

"I'm sorry, Jimbo. Nothing."

Jimbo got up and paced the room, as if trying to tune into the sound.

Samuel got more worried. His body suddenly forgot that it had almost died in a paranormal avalanche and that every bone in his body  hurt like the devil.

First sign something was wrong was the overhead TV went static.

The lights in the room flickered off and on.

Sparks of electricity shot from the plugs in the room and danced across the floor about Jimbo's feet.
The temperature in the room dropped a good fifty degrees. His breath came out in a thick mist. The water in his glass turned to ice and began to snap and crackle like frozen water breaking. The glass exploded in his hand.

The window beside his bed flung open and a freezing wind blasted inside.

Fingers of ice began to draw themselves across the floor and up the sidewalls to the ceiling, where they began to form icicles dangling down.

Jimbo drew back next to Samuel, pulling out his Texas Lady...a firearm that held thirty two bullets, all of them silver tipped, hollow point and ready to tear the heart out of any beast or man willing to get in their way.

Then they heard Nurse Red scream at the top of her lungs.

The Shasta Caper begins today here.

Beginning a new novel in my Samuel Light series today to mark the celebration of the upcoming publication of the first three novels in the series:

The Hammer of the Gods
The Light of Atlantis
The Rise of the Fallen.

I'll be posting covers for the above novels once they are finished.

But today I'm posting a new novel about Samuel and his good buddy Jimbo, a burly, rascally Texan who doesn't believe in anything like ghosts, yet hangs out with one of the world's most famous detectives for dealing with ghosts and psychic phenomena.

The Shasta Caper

Samuel watched the orb in Jimbo's hands turn round and round and round, as if impelled by some kind of invisible force. A bottomless well of eternal energy. A perpetual energy machine. "What does it do?" Samuel finally asked, knowing full well his friend would make sure that whatever he said would throw Samuel into some kind of fit. It seemed, sometimes, as if Jimbo, his best friend's, sole mission in life was to make Samuel repent that he ever had any kind of paranormal powers and settle down into an eight to five, beer fest of a life, much as his friend professed to enjoy.

"Makes buttercups and peanut butter cups." Jimbo said without cracking a smile.

Samuel started to laugh. Jimbo had really blown a stinker this time.

"No, really."

Jimbo pressed the orb and it shot from his hand across the table separating him and Samuel and a path of buttercups and peanut butter cups sprouted from the table top.

Samuel almost jumped out of his chair. "How the hell..."

Jimbo retrieved the orb and it settled down between his palms, then lost its glow until it appeared to be a normal baseball again.

Samuel reached over and touched a buttercup. It was a beautiful, spritely yellow with stings of gold and orange down its throat. The stem merged from the wood of the old Texan cactus wood, appearing to be a branch of the table top until it became delicate and tiny at its tip, where the large buttercup throat dwelled.

"This is truly remarkable." Samuel purred, loving the feel of the flower. It felt like love warmed over. His hand tingled with an energy he hadn't felt in years.

"Where's it from?"

Jimbo frowned a moment, as if afraid to speak up, then his frown gave way to his Texas drawl and his Texas smile, big as the wide open country, making his huge mustache dance happily on his upper lip. "Where do you think?"

"Texas?"

"Again."

"You've got me. Never seen anything like this before."

Jimbo leaned closer, a slick look edging his lips and a smile heaving to his nose, giving him a smirky car salesman look. "It's like this, when you visit certain places that most people would rather pass around and ignore, you find things."

"Where?" Samuel demanded again.

"Covina, California. In an old book store on Citrus street. It's gone now."

"The magic?"

"No, the book store. But the magic's still there. Deep underground."

"How'd you learn about it?"

"Well." Jimbo looked around the Denny's they were eating in. It was Vegas and there were lots of tourists, wearing sun blazers, sun glasses, Mai Tais, cigars and shorts. Typical crowd from the Orient and California. "I had a wee bit of...help."

A tall woman, elegantly built, like a sleek Mercedes Benz, stood up from a nearby booth, straightened her blouse, a clean pearl white with long strings of pearls about her throat, and shook her long black hair behind her head, then headed towards them. As she walked Samuel could have sworn that every male and female eye in the restaurant became glued to her.

"Hot! Right?" Jimbo whispered.

"Beyond. So beyond." Samuel whispered back, then rose as the tall woman stopped before their booth and reached out a hand. "I was told I might meet you here..."

Samuel reached his hand out and clasped hers. "I'm...."

WHAM

Samuel was blasted out of his body into that of a tiny child standing on a porch in the Himalayas. The porch was made of carved stone with reliefs cut into it of Ganesha, Indra, Lord Krishna, Shiva, the eight armed goddess Kali and a huge Tiger that had the world mounted on the tip of its nose.

"Come inside Chindra." A woman's voice pleaded. "It's getting cold."

Chindra turned his tiny face to look at the woman standing behind him. She wore a huge garment made of pure gold saffron, woven from gold and silver threads in intricate patterns that delineated her birth and her dreams, her fantasies and her hopes and desires.

Chindra was no ordinary child. He was the Chosen. Soon he would be selected to be the next leader of Tibet. He was being chosen because he could remember a thousand past lives, and in every one of them he became perfect and became reborn to help those still enslaved to the illusion of Maya as she dressed herself on Earth with all its pleasures and sensations.

"I am not cold. I am the cold." Chindra told her teasingly, his tiny pearl shaped lips curling in a delicate smile.

"Nevertheless, you are still a child." She told him, her eyes crinkling with mirth over the small play of words they inevitably went through.

"I have not been a child for a thousand lifetimes. God does not allow that. I do not want it. If I were to become a child again, who would cook the marvelous chapatis I serve you and your fellow monks each evening. Who would mix the spices for the dals and the chai for your drink?"

She laughed.

He laughed too.

She lifted him up into her arms and he snuggled there. He was not a child, but he did appreciate sincere love and warmth and affection when it was offered.

"Just look at the Himalayas." She told him, turning slightly to offer a view of their golden majesty. Some of the mountains were so tall that they were snow peaked, others drifted in hazes of clouds and growing fog cast from the cold of the Ganges colliding with the warmth of the grounds about it.
"Yes, my Sati." He told her. "It is all that and more."

Then a great rumbling sounded. She looked up, but he did not.

He put a hand to her cheek. "Will it be okay with you if I do not become the Dalai Lama in this life and that you and I meet again in a more charming place?"

She looked into his eyes and her love was so great that he knew that not even death could shake it off. She had achieved the Divine.

"I would love anywhere you chose to be with me again."

Then an avalanche of rock crashed into the space they stood.

WHAM!

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Movie Trailer

In the sequel, when Lou (Corddry) finds himself in trouble, Nick (Robinson) and Jacob (Duke) fire up the hot tub time machine in an attempt to get back to the past. But they inadvertently land in the future. Now they have to alter the future in order to save the past... which is really the present.

The new Mad Max Fury Trailer

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.

I'm not quite sure what to think about the new version. Not much in the way of interaction type scenes that would indicate emotional content. Could just be another expensive bombs and bullets movie, and not really dealing with the consequences of bad choices of humanity so much.

We'll see.

Anyway. Up for your pleasure.

Another, but short, giants video

It'd be interesting to know why giants remain so strong in all our myths and legends. It's a well known fact that most myths have so me basis in truth, so is there truth to there having been giants at one time?

Giants are real....

I've been looking at the subject of giants for quite some time now, and here's a video that might tweak your interest. From a legitimate source.

This all relates to my Hollow Earth series I'm now writing in two different directions...from the Jules Verne perspective with my Journey to the Center of the Earth series, and from the perspective of the Agharta, mystical, Hollow Earth viewpoint which I pursue in my detective series, The Shasta Caper, which is being blogged daily on my pro site: www.johnpirillo.com

If you haven't visited there yet, you should. It's quite literally good for days and days of reading pleasure and viewing fun.

Best to all.

Caldera...intriguing CGI short

Watch this absolutely beautiful and Award-Winning CGI animated short film by talented Animation filmmaker and composer, Evan Viera! For more information about this film please visit the links below:

SYNOPSIS
Through the eyes of a young girl suffering from mental illness, CALDERA glimpses into a world of psychosis and explores a world of ambiguous reality and the nature of life and death.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
CALDERA is inspired by my father's struggle with schizoaffective disorder. In states of delusion, my father has danced on the rings of Saturn, spoken with angels, and fled from his demons. He has lived both a fantastical and haunting life, but one that's invisible to the most of us. In our differing understanding of reality, we blindly mandate his medication, assimilate him to our marginalizing culture, and entirely misinterpret him for all he is worth. CALDERA aims to not only venerate my father, but all brilliant minds forged in the haunted depths of psychosis.

Dig for the truth, the truth is deeper than we realize, harder to find and maybe even dangerous.

There is a civilization buried so deep in time...and inside our earth that they have been remembered only as legends and myths. But are they just figments of our imagination, or are they something more than  human?

My new novel The Shasta Caper examines the myth of Mount Shasta from a totally new perspective and is actually based on true life experiences and facts in part.

To read what is happening inside Mount Shasta and perhaps somewhere else as well, go to my blog on www.johnpirillo.com. I am blogging an entire novel each and every day!

And if you haven't come before, there are already two other novels in the blog.

Have a great night.

More King Arthur story added tonight.

One incarnation of my book cover for the King Arthur series. I'll post other ones as time goes by. I like all of them, but sometimes one version just clicks more emotionally for me and I choose that one.

Besides, how do you capture the essence of someone whose legendary reign might have been forged with a sword, but whose true power was the depths of his compassion.

Best to all.

More added to the King Arthur story under new stories.
